Writing much later on - I'm wondering about the stories from Israeli (Jewish) sources - that acknowledge that on October 7th - Israeli forces fired indiscriminately - killing a significant number of the Israeli casualties. Personally - with Israeli relatives in the hundreds if not over 1000 - I can grieve for the losses life on "both sides" - at the same time - recognizing that there is a Totally False - claim of "Balance" - in the core issues. I can understand a part of WHY Hamas is "logical" and needs to be understood in part - and in that sense NOT judged as harshly - in a way that similarly - I would look in the U.S. at some violence coming from Black and Indigenous People - as being "understandable" even when it seemed/seems "wrong". In neither case are things necessarily "right". Until I hear Joe Biden and the U.S. - not subsidizing genocidal policies and the continued oppression - where - simplistic calls for a "Two State Solution" - are far, far different from cutting off U.S. - paying largely for Military "Commissions" to U.S. Defense Contractors. Reparations for Harm - are Necessary and while some Misrahi Jews have faced "oppression" - prior to arriving in Israel - they have also faced - essentially "racial discrimination" in Israel - similar to how Black People here - still face serious racism. Yes - let's have compassion. Let's have compassion for the Gazan's - who were traumatized in 1948- forced out of their villages - and the trauma their Descendants also face. Read Fida Jiryis's story - see my ties to it at: https://www.georgemarx.org/2023/03/stranger-in-my-own-land-fida-jiryis.html - Incidentally: Shai Agnon was my Great-Uncle! I care about his grand-children and their descendants - for example.
